Natural dyes, are extracted from natural resources. They are made of vegetables, plants and minerals like roots, bark, leaf, fruits, flowers, etc.

Natural dyes are eco-friendly, non toxic and non-hazardous. They are water-soluble and are easily disposable. They do not disturb the ecological balance of Mother Earth.

The process of making natural dyes perpetuate the ancient tradition of natural dyeing, combined with scientific research, ensuring quality and stability of the dyes.

From the early days of the industrial revolution, the textile industry has been seen as a major polluter of rivers. Textile effluents were generally all directed to watercourses, often with no prior treatment to remove contaminants

There is a need to develop a broader more holistic view, which embraces ethical, environmental and social concerns.

Free Elegance has collaborated with The Colours Of Nature to ensure certified authentic vegetable dyeing of the cotton yarn used in the fabrics.

Many people are aware that the colourful clothes that we commonly see around us use chemical based agents for manufacturing and processing the fabric as well as their colouring. However, few are aware that just like chemicals in the foods, the chemicals used in making and colouring fabrics are also equally harmful for our health.

The reason is not far to seek; our skin is a living and breathing part of the body, and as the chemical based clothes rub against it and interact with it, the skin absorbs them and gets affected.

Nearly all dyestuffs are now produced from synthetic compounds. They are chemically synthesized in modern plants where the processing and handling leaves corrosive chemical waste in the fabric.

Although some variation may occur in colour and consistency due to the natural source of ingredients and extensive use of manual skills, practitioners of the craft maintain that natural dyes have a far superior aesthetic quality which is quite pleasing to the eye. They are harmonious and have a depth that chemical colours often lack. The fastness of the natural dyes is good and so is the consistency of the colours produced.

Natural dyes offer a rich and varied source of dyestuff, and their manufacturing provides a source income through sustainable harvest and sale of dye plants. Many dyes are available from trees or herbal waste.

As the ingredients of Natural dyes are purely natural, they are non-allergic to our body and cause no health hazards associated with chemical based colours and clothes. In fact, in some cases, they act as a cure since some the herbs which are used have medicinal values.

Using natural vegetable dyes helping Mother Earth and us remain free of chemicals, toxins and its effects.
